When Traveling/eating out
- Make sure to google if something is gluten free before trying it (unless labeled gf)
- When going out to eat or having someone cook for you make sure your server/cook knows how severe your allergy is
- Always bring a snack wherever you go just incase there are not any gluten free options
- Research a restaurant before going there to make sure it has gluten free options
- Don't eat at very busy places to ensure the cooks have enough time to prepare your food safely
- When at a restaurant double check your order to make sure your waiter knows its gluten free
- Always take enough gluten free food when traveling
In General
- Don't trust foods made in a factory with gluten/wheat
- Have separate gluten free baking ingredients (sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, etc.)
- Always wash baking surface and utensils before cooking
- Separate gluten free and non gluten free foods in kitchen
- Label which foods are gluten free and non gluten free (partially used icing, ice cream, etc.)
- Have a separate gluten free toaster and label it
- Find a gluten free cookbook
- Make sure to inform guests of your allergy
- Stay positive! Don't complain all the time about how you can't eat wheat
- Try baking gluten free even if you're not a good baker
- If you use it, find gluten free makeup
- Bring your own food to parties. Often hosts put out several bowls of food for example a bowl of crackers and a bowl of lays potato chips. Even though the lays are gluten free people will be touching the crackers then the lays making a possibility of cross contamination.
